Who am I?
I am a swedish speaking Finnish freelancer working in the fields of illustration, art and culture. I have a BA in Fine Art with Honours and am self taught in the basics of illustrating software. Currently I'm studying Communication Design at Glasgow School of Art, MA level. I'm a member of kuvittajat ry (The Finnish Illustration Association) and a member of Fibul rf (Authors and Illustrators of Children's Literature in swedish in Finland). I create images and stories for adults and for children.
What do I do?
I work with a variety of media but prefer to use traditional methods- drawing and collage. I got my first illustration-job as illustrator for the book Senja Opettaa Sinulle Ruotsia published in 2012 through winning an online illustrating contest. I wrote my first children's book in 2017, Hönans Kalas was published in Helsinki. I care deeply for issues such as the environment, feminism, the refugee crisis, equality and justice. Since 2016 I have been the project artist for 'Climefish' - a scientific study focused on the impact of climate change on the European fishing industry.
I also work independently as an artist and painter and had my solo exhibition Wolf Hour in Galleria Frida in Helsinki February 2019. In 2019 I also debuted with my first comic short story titled Alter Ego which was published by 'En Liten Bok' publishing. The theme of this story is sexual harassment and bullying. I love travelling and have in addition to my studies in Canterbury also lived in Glasgow for almost two years and in Volos, Greece for a year. I have worked in Norway multiple summers to finance my art education. In 2018 and 2019 I visited and worked in Brazil, UK, Iceland Finland and the Åland Islands.
What's coming up?
I am currently working on a series of comic strips for a comic book for which I have received a project funding grant by Svenska Kulturfonden. I am also currently a full time student at GSA in Glasgow, and I take on commissions for art and illustrations by the side of studying.
